Free Home Energy Kits Available at Neighborhood Service Centers

The kits, which include an energy efficient light bulb, shower timer, coupon for a power strip, and a how-to video are available at your local Neighborhood Service Centers across the city.  Think that a shower timer can't help save the planet? Consider this: if 10,000 people reduced shower times from 7.9 minutes to 5 minutes, Seattle residents could save more than 3.39 million kWh per year, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of 2,034 metric tons of CO2. That's like taking 452 cars off the road a year. Check out the The Seattle Channel's how-to videos on finding air leaks, weather sealing windows, weatherstripping doors, and sealing cracks and gaps. For a step-by-step guide to improving your home's energy performance, go here.

CityArtist Project Funding Available

Individual artists and the creative process are the heart of an arts community. Every year, the CityArtist Projects program provides funding to develop and present original work by Seattle artists, with different disciplines in alternating years. Funds may support new works, works-in-progress, or finished works, and all projects must include a public presentation. Funding awards range up to $10,000. The deadline is March 17th. For application and more information visit the Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs.

Shoreline Master Program Public Visioning Workshops

Public involvement for the Shoreline Master Program (SMP) update is continuing with seven community visioning workshops in March.Seattle residents will have the opportunity to help shape the vision for the future of Seattle ’s shorelines. Using input from these workshops, DPD will publish a Vision Report that will inform the SMP update. Seven workshops will be held, one each for the various shoreline regions (Central Waterfront, Duwamish, Lake Union , Lake Washington, etc.). Although each workshop will mostly focus on issues specific to one region, there will also be opportunities to hear about the overall Shoreline Master Program update and to comment on other shoreline regions or city-wide shoreline issues. If you cannot attend a workshop at a location closest to you, please attend one in a different region. Dates, times and locations for the shoreline visioning workshops
