FEMA Urges All December Rain Storm Victims to File Claims ( Assistance not limited to uninsured losses)

Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) is urging everyone who experienced any loss, not just uninsured losses, from December’s flooding to file a claim. The change expands FEMA’s ability to assist individuals, families and businesses, and enables the agency to gain a more comprehensive look at total losses throughout the state.

•  Those who apply may qualify for low-interest loans, housing grants or other financial assistance grants. The deadline for King County residents is February 19, 2008. Actual deadlines vary throughout the state depending on when individual counties were added to the federal declaration.

•  Those filing with FEMA should register first either on-line or by phone prior to coming to a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). It’s about a 15-minute process by phone. Once on file, DRC staff will then be able to answer additional questions and assist with other services. Go to www.fema.gov/assistance, 24 hours a day. Call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or 1-800-462-7585 for speech or hearing impaired. Lines are staffed from8 a.m. to6 p.m. (PST), seven days a week starting Wednesday, December 26. Language services provided.

•  The Disaster RecoveryCenter at North Seattle Community College will be open on New Years Day, with new hours startingJanuary 1, 2008. New DRC hours are from10 a.m. to6:30 p.m. seven days a week, including New Years Day.

Public Comment Period: November 15, 2007January 30, 2008

By 2040, the four-counties of King, Kitsap, Pierce and Snohomish are expected to grow by an additional 1.4 million people.  The Puget Sound Regional Council is updating the region’s long-range Destination 2030 transportation plan with strategies to keep people moving toward 2040 and beyond, as the region grows and prospers. During the update, people throughout the region will work together to build a shared strategy to meet transportation demands over the next three decades.

PSRC wants to hear from you —What are your transportation priorities and concerns, what alternatives would you like to see in the region’s transportation plan, and what are your environmental concerns? In January 2008 PSRC will hold a series of meetings about the plan update. These public meetings offer a chance to share your transportation views and get information on key projects in your area.
