Report wind and flooding damage

 

Seattle residents with storm-related damage are urged to contact the King County Citizen Damage Report Hotline at 1-800-523-5044. Residents are urged to document damage with photographs as reported information will be used to assist the state of Washington in its request for federal disaster assistance. Seattle residents and businesses still recovering from the damage caused by the November rainstorm are urged to report all damage to the Federal Emergency Management Agency at 1-800-621-3362. Community Building Opportunity for Seattle’s Neighbors

Are you interested in becoming involved in your community?  Are you looking to contribute time and give back to your neighborhood? 

 

WHAT:  The combined District Councils of Seattle are hosting a leadership forum, with Councilmember Sally Clark as keynote speaker. Entitled “Community Brainstorm—Community Building for Seattle ’s Neighbors,” several panels will have members give presentations on the following topics:

  • Identifying and mobilizing others on important issues
  • Raising money and generating in-kind contributions
  • Finding and motivating volunteers 
  • Outreach and publicity

  Panel presentations will be followed by break-out sessions on each topic. 

 

WHEN:  Saturday, January 27th from 9 am-noon.

 

WHERE:  Bertha Landes Knight Room at City Hall, 5 th Ave. and James St .

 

Free childcare will be provided onsite for a limited number of children.  Be sure to give us advance notice. Free bus fare will be provided for up to 50 people. Refreshments will be provided.

Energy and Utility Assistance

Get help with your utility bills!

The City of Seattle's Utility Assistance Program helps eligible low-income families, seniors, and adults with disabilities keep utility payments current. Emergency funds help eligible Seattle City Light and Seattle Public Utilities customers who face electrical and water disconnection. For information, call 206-684-0268.  Interpretation services available.

This month´s title, "Talking to High Monks in the Snow" by Lydia Minatoya is a memoir by an American-born daughter of Japanese immigrants. Minatoya traveled to Asia and learned about a history and culture she had never encountered before. An American Library Association Notable Book.

This group meets the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm (as scheduled).

Small Sparks Community Development Fund is Waiting!  

Do you have ideas for building community that could use up to $250 from the City's Small Sparks program? Small Sparks seeks to bring together new people. The goal is to get new people (e.g. recent immigrants, youth, seniors, and people with disabilities) involved in creative small-scale community building initiatives.  If you have any ideas we would love to hear about them as well as sharing program information with you! Provided by the Seattle Mayor's Office for Senior Citizens (aged 60 and older) is a discount card and directory of businesses and organizations that give discounts and special offers to seniors.

Woodland Park Zoo & Seattle Aquarium Passes

Passes for the Woodland Park Zoo and Seattle Aquarium are available at the NSC. These are only for low-income families and there is a limit of 4 per households .
