South Lake Union Streetcar Construction Open House

A modern streetcar is coming to the South Lake Union, Denny Triangle and Downtown Retail Core. 

In advance of streetcar construction the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is hosting an open house to inform the public about South Lake Union Streetcar utility and rail construction that is scheduled to begin late June of 2006.

Brief presentation and question session starts at 6:00 p.m.You and your neighbors are invited to attend and learn more
about the South Lake Union Streetcar, how it will be built, possible construction impacts or interruptions and get your
questions answered by members of the streetcar team.

The Seattle Department of Transportation is developing a parking management plan for Westlake Avenue North from
Valley Street to the Aurora Bridge.The plan includes paid parking, multi-day parking, and a residential parking zone to address employee, long-term marina user, and resident parking needs.We’d like to answer your questions and get your input on how the new parking plan can best meet your needs. Light refreshments will be provided.

Free Trees for Your Neighborhood

This fall, the Department of Neighborhoods will be providing free trees for residential streets in Seattle. Applications are accepted from groups of neighbors, and are due on Friday, August 11, 2006. Start planning now to plant trees with your neighbors in the fall. Applications will be approved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Come see some of the coolest snakes around at the Snake Experience presentation! This program combines science and fun and is sure to challenge and inspire. All featured snakes are non-venomous and are kept under control by professional snake handler Nick Sutton, who also works locally as a zookeeper. Each program includes a basic overview of snakes and teaches a general respect for all wildlife. For ages 6 and up.

Seattle's 2006 updated Comprehensive Plan is now available. Printed copies are available from the DPD Public Resource Center, 20th floor of Seattle Municipal Tower at 700 Fifth Ave, (206) 684-8467. Copies of the replacement pages are free and the complete plan costs $15. The complete updated plan is also available on CD for free.

Small Sparks Community Development Grant is Waiting!  

Do you have ideas for building community that could use up to $250 from the City's Small Sparks program? Small Sparks seeks to bring together new people. The goal is to get new people (e.g., recent immigrants, youth, seniors, and people with disabilities) involved in creative small-scale community building initiatives.  If you have any ideas we would love to hear about them, and share information about the program with you!
