2007-2008 Budget priorities: The people will decide

The Council encourages everyone to become involved

Seattle The City Council will hold a series of Town Hall Special Meetingsin neighborhoods throughout the city to hear what Seattle residents feel should be the priorities of the City’s 2007-2008 Biennial Budget. These meetings, co-sponsored bySeattle’s City Neighborhood Council, present an opportunity for community members to be heard.

“We’re optimistic but cautious about the region’s economic forecast, knowing there will be adverse impacts from Federal cuts and changes in the State’s B&O tax structure in 2008,” saidCouncilmember Richard McIver, chair of the Budget Committee. “Some crucialSeattle levies are running out and this means we face even tougher decisions. So come to the meeting that’s closest to your home and tell us what you think should be our priorities as we work to build a sustainable city budget.”

Councilmember McIver wants to hear all community concerns at the top of the 2007-2008 budget process so he can assure stated priorities from the communities come first.

The Council hopes to present the proposed budget priorities resolution Monday, May 15th.  The full schedule for the Budget process is posted on Councilmember McIver’s website at http://www.seattle.gov/council/mciver/. Below, is the list of meetings, their locations and times.
